Venue Spotlight – The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

Written by Jennifer Hansen

It’s 40 degrees today, but with temperatures all over the board we still can’t help dreaming of going back to the The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf resort in Kiawah, South Carolina. It’s located right outside of Charleston and we were lucky enough to plan a 3 day event there for a client – and even luckier, according to my husband, that we arrived two days earlier then the group.  Right when you drive on the island you feel like you are entering a bygone era as you drive onto the island under a canopy of beautiful trees and up the oak lined driveway to The Sanctuary Hotel.

It is perhaps one of the most stunning destinations we’ve gone to – from the golf courses and tennis center where our clients played on award winning golf courses.  If you are a die hard golfer you need to put one of these courses on your bucket list!

And who says team building has to be boring!  The staff at the hotel put together a great afternoon of Olympic games for us and even when we asked if they had sumo wrestling they happily found it for us! Trust me that stopped a few beach walkers.

We had an amazing closing dinner and after hours lounge which we made to look like a Boston pub. The team at Sanctuary was wonderful and we were lucky enough also to work with fantastic team at Adventures in Charleston that provided all our unique rentals.

Thank you to a fantastic client – now hurry up and close another fund so we can celebrate again!

{Hidden GEM} Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

We discovered this Hidden GEM in a rather unlikely place.  While attending a conference held at the Boston Harbor Hotel, through casual conversation, we came across this fantastic hidden venue, right in the heart of Boston! Established in 1908 by request of the will of the late Benjamin Franklin himself, the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology was founded to educate the “tradesmen” of Boston. Franklin, identified himself as a “printer”, he wanted there to be a place where tradesmen like himself could perfect their crafts.  Almost 110 year later, that objective has flourished at FIT, still at it’s original locations on Berkeley Street.

The Hidden GEM we are specifically referring to is the Symphony Hall Replica Ballroom/Auditorium and Lobby.  The historic lobby with gorgeous marble floor, wrought iron gate and murals by Charles Mills is the ideal setting for an elegant cocktail party or a corporate reception.  The lobby leads into the ballroom which is an exact replica of  Boston Symphony Hall.  With its vaulted ceilings and sweeping balcony, the space is a visual and acoustic marvel!  This little known GEM in Boston’s South End can accommodate up to 300 guests for a seated dinner.  The ballroom is one of the few spaces in Boston that has a stage, lending itself to an array of corporate as well as social occasions.

We were so enamored with the charm and elegance of this great space that can accommodate such a variety of events, both large and small, that we had to make it one of our Hidden GEMs.

{Hidden GEM} HoneyMaker Mead

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Welcome to our {Hidden GEM} blog series, a bi-weekly post sharing all the “Hidden GEMS “ that our team has stumbled upon!

At Gracious Events we’ve had the pleasure of meeting a considerable amount of professionals across a broad range of industries.  We’re all about sharing and our travels throughout the event industry both social and corporate have granted us exposure to all things old, new, quirky, trendy and frankly good old fashion fun.

First up is HoneyMaker Mead a Sustainable Winery & Vineyard in Portland, Maine.  What we discover while attending various Bridal Events is usually “wedding industry” typical but this past Sunday in Portland, Maine at Beswoona curated bridal showcase we found HoneyMaker Wine.  Their display table immediately stood out amongst the rest with their polish colored wine bottles, elegant stemless monogrammed wine glasses and impeccable branding.

Their brand ambassadors were both friendly and knowledgable as they shared about the different wines we could try.  They explained about the Mead process and how it changes with the seasons…very fitting for a true New England Wine Company! One would not expect honey and wine to go together but we recommend you check out this {Hidden GEM} we dare you to discover the BEE to bottle process, we promise you will not BEE disappointed and as HoneyMaker says in their HIVE it is “Buzzworthy“.
