To Wear boots or Not

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Well here in New England the leaves are changing and Fall is officially upon us, which means so is WINTER!  Years ago if it rained on your wedding day they would tell you not to worry because it’s “good luck”.  Today, like everything with weddings “things have changed” NOW brides want a little rain!  It’s just another opportunity for fabulous photos with trendy colorful rain boots.  If you are planning a winter wedding brides are opting for either rain boots or cozy snow boots that are furry and stylish.  It really is amazing how many wedding trends have come and gone, never would you have thought a couple would choose to have their wedding during the rainy or snowy season.  Kudos to all the couples who happen to get stuck with rain or snow on their wedding day and made the best of it.  The wedding footwear options for inclement weathers is limitless!  We have featured some of our favorites to inspire you!

Meet our Intern

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

We are so excited that the GEM TEAM has just grown by two feet and two hands!  I think everyone can remember their first internship…depending on the who, what, when and where of your internship it was either an amazing life changing experience or a really boring one where you learned nothing except everyones coffee order.  Personally my first internship took a bus and two trains just to get there and one of the trains was the Greenline…that just says it all!  Gracious Events embraces internships and we are thrilled to introduce you to Erin our fall intern.  Erin could not have come at a better time as our fall is one of our craziest times so we know she will not be bored.  We’re looking forward to teaching Erin all about the good, the bad, the funny and the not so glamorous side of Event Management.  Erin’s first task was to answer a few questions so we could learn more about her and send us a photo.  I asked to have everything by Thursday, it arrived in my email on Wednesday…YAY for all the TYPE A interns out there with great work ethics…you will go far in life!

Q: What made you want to do an internship for an Event Management Company?

Erin: I wanted to do an internship for an Event Management Company because I thought it would be a fun experience and I could receive further knowledge on this major to see if it’s what I want to study in college.

Q: What do you hope to gain from your time here?

Erin: I hope to gain an enjoyable experience, meet new people, and learn about event planning and all the challenges that come with it. I want to get out as much as I can from this internship and learn as much as I can.

Q: What other interests do you have?

Erin: I love interior design and being able to create your own space. I am very good at picking out patterns and colors, and I feel that will help me if I choose to be an event planner. I also love to dance and have been taking it for 5 years.

Q: Tell us something about yourself that we do not know?

Erin: Something you don’t know about me is that I am a very organized person and I always have to make sure I have everything ready and aligned. I have been told that as an Event Planner you have to sometimes forget about that, because even those who are organized will have to deal with last minute problems that come up in an event.

Q: What are your plans for after graduation?

Erin: After graduation I want to be involved in summer internships and traveling. Then I want to attend Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island in the fall for Event Planning and Sports Management.

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Erin: I would love to be an Event Planner and through this internship I think it can help me further that dream. Being able to have practice in the field and learning from experts can help me learn more about the field, and if I truly want to pursue it.

Welcome Gift Baskets

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Giving your wedding guests a “welcome” basket was usually only done for destination weddings, but in the last few years it has become more common as guests are tending to stay at the venue or close by even for local weddings.  YES, this is one more item that you need to now think about when planning your wedding, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.  You can’t imagine what we found during our search…there where funny signs to hang on your door, custom slippers, chocolates and of course an itinerary for the wedding so your guests know where to be and when!  Some couples even provide “hang over” kits others did special themes especially if they were getting married in a certain city or place like the beach.  There is no wrong or right way when it comes to providing a welcome gesture to your guests it can be as simple as a bottle of water and cookies for when they come back to the room after the wedding.  The only advice we have is to make it personal and welcoming, it’s always nice to be thought of and your guests will appreciate that you did.  There was was so much inspiration to choose from but we finally had to narrow it to the top 7.

What socks are you wearing?

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

There are a lot of questions that are asked when planning a wedding, some are fun, some are rude and some are pretty NEW!  I can’t tell you how many times I have asked “What does your dress look like?”, “Where is your venue?”, or “What are your bridesmaids wearing?”   The newest question to the wedding world lately is “What are the guys wearing for socks?”  YES, you are reading that correctly.  It’s pretty hard to miss the growing trend of the groomsmen wearing funky, colorful or themed socks.  Personally, I LOVE it, they’re getting creative and make for some really amazing photo opportunities!  Check out some of our favorites here at Gracious Events Management…I think we will be creating a NEW pinterest board just for SOCKS.
