New York Stationery Show 2016

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Every May in New York City the National Stationery Show  is there to showcase all things paper.  You will find the latest designs in greeting cards, custom invitations, gift wrap and journals, to lifestyle gifts – and everything in between.  I’ve had the pleasure of attending NSS three times and it never disappoints and always is so much fun.  I was not there this year, but was following via social media to see and read about all the new designers, veteran designers and of course fun new items that you will now see in the market.  I picked a few of what I consider “fabulous finds” and are so excited to share it with all of you.

How fun are these wine tags by Design with Heart Studio, you could use them for the wedding party!

This whimsical wrapping paper from My Mind’s Eye, has some incredible color combinations going on. I recommend checking out their site…there is so much more!

What I love best about NSS is that it’s not just paper, I am over the moon about Spartina 449 there’s not one item on her site I would not want.  Amazing fresh and clean patterns for bags and just about everything else. LOVE that they even have a bag pattern just for us in the Northeast.

Who doesn’t love a unicorn…leave it to Waste Not Paper to come up with this line of course everyone needs a “spirit animal”.

While at the NSS you’ll see tons of inspiration from the designs to the 1000’s of  show booths you can visit.  I feel it’s fitting to end with this “inspiration” from holstee.com…I think we all need to remember what really matters in LIFE.

Vintage Finds For Weddings

Written by Jennifer Hansen

“Vintage” is the buzz word in our industry right now, especially when it comes to decor!  We love when our clients decide to think outside the box and check out their local second hand stores to find inexpensive, meaningful items for their wedding or event. We have found amazing barn doors, vases (cheaper then Michael’s), frames, centerpieces, seating and so much more at these great local businesses.  So grab a cup of coffee, your friends (or your better half if you can convince them) and go have some fun.

And just to show you how easy it is to find great items, Erin our savvy and creative intern, went on a walking excursion through downtown Newburyport to see what she could find that could be creatively implemented into a wedding.  Her finds are incredible and as always she exceeds our expectations.

Marquee Lighting

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

This is one my NEW favorite options for event lighting…MARQUEE LIGHTING. This has been huge in the UK for the last couple of years and has recently made its way across the pond to us!  In our quest to find more information about marquee lighting we stumbled upon Your Love In Lights, a Needham, MA based company.  I had the pleasure of speaking with Helen about her and her husband Tom’s company.  Ironically Helen is actually from England (one of my favorite accents) so when she discovered that the US was missing this market they decided they would offer some options.  They are so fun and can truly make a statement at any event…even corporate!  Another market to use these marquee lights would be in business offices, I know we would LOVE a pair that spells out GEM to have in our office…maybe we can ask Santa!

The Inflatable Pub

Written by Tania Atkinson

The majority of our posts are about something elegant, lovely or whimsical.  However, this time, none of those words would apply.  While doing a little surfing, I came across this little gem and just had to feature it on our blog.  Check out The Paddy Wagon: the Boston area’s first inflatable Irish Pub.  We’ve all been to parties at local restaurants, functions facilities or bars, but have you been to a party in a completely portable Irish Pub?!

This creative new way to have a party is heating up the party scene (both corporate and social) and The Paddy Wagon is the first of it’s kind to hit the Boston Market.  They are a full service operation providing the facility, entertainment, food and most importantly… the beverages.  Their T.I.P.S certified staff provides a variety of been and wine and even teaches guests how to pour a “perfect pint” at their taps.  They provide a variety of traditional Irish fare, perfect for a corporate outing or birthday celebration.

Speaking of celebration, The Paddy Wagon also provides multiple entertainment options from and Irish fiddle to a full band or DJ, Irish Step dancers and even their Irish Wolf hounds.

This unique operation can provide as little or as much as you would like for an original, fun filled and lively event, right in your own back yard!

{Hidden GEM} The Bejeweled Florist

Written by Tania Atkinson

This weeks’ Hidden Gem is something so fitting to the title: The Bejeweled Florist has been dubbed “The Queen of the brooch bouquet”.  The business based out of Windham, NH all began when Denise’s daughter asked her to make make her a brooch wedding bouquet so she could include her grandmothers’ vintage brooch.  From that one bouquet in southern NH, the Bejeweled Florist began.

The joy of the brooch bouquet is that after all the wedding day, it is something you will have forever.  Denise has made bouquets for brides as well as entire wedding parties.  She has expanded her creations to include boutonnieres, bracelets and adorned shoes.

{Hidden GEM} The Coffee Trike

Written by Tania Atkinson

So, this really has nothing to do with weddings, it won’t help out any new bride or anyone planning an upcoming event, however, it is just a fabulous idea we wanted to share.  The Coffee Trike is an entirely self-contained coffee tricycle found rolling around Dewey Square on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:30am to 3:30pm.

10470865_728140473920069_631030617968631791_o

Founder Alessandro Bellino started “pedaling” his business in 2012 following a stint as a barrister at a small coffee shop in Lexington, Ma.  Just a few short years after seeing his dream come to fruition, this hand crafted, custom built  Trike was named in Business Insiders “50 Coolest Small Business Ideas in America”.

The Coffee Trike embraces the concept of providing a simple menu of perfectly concocted espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, and mochas as well as cold coffee beverages all made with locally brewed coffee and milk and cream from local dairies.

The Coffee Trike is an environmentally friendly mobile gourmet beverage cart that brings joy to Boston’s downtown business crowd as well as the out of town  tourists, twelve months a year guaranteeing personalized attention and detail to every drink.

{Hidden GEM} Fabulous Frocks

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

This weeks’ Hidden GEM is a retail concept that has been literally a “hidden gem” for decades in Europe, and is now taking off in the US.  Fabulous Frocks was started by a young bride in South Carolina who didn’t want to trade style for budget.  Opening it’s first shop on Charleston’s historic Church Street, founder Sarah Black stocked only new or once-wed couture gowns with original minimum retail prices of $2,000.  This inventory allowed savvy, yet trendy brides to purchase their dream gowns for $1,000 to $8,000+ thus getting dresses they otherwise would never have been able to afford.

Fabulous Frocks boutiques provide one-on-one appointments in a fun and attentive atmosphere in all of their 6 locations.  Can’t find what you’re looking for, or you don’t live near any of the boutiques?  Not a problem!  All of the Fabulous Frocks boutiques have access to an online inventory as does the customer.  With a regularly updating inventory, there are always new designer gowns to choose from in every style and size.

{HIDDEN GEM} SpeechBooth

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Gracious Events found this “HIDDEN GEM” a few weeks back at the BESWOON Event our team attended.  Let us introduce you to SPEECHBOOTH; your very own video message recording kit that arrives pre-assembled, is self-sufficient, and easily blends into any wedding theme with a clean sleek look.  Our team was immediately impressed with how user friendly and compact SPEECHBOOTH was, as not all venues have a lot of space for large photo or video booths.

Kit and Box 2.26 2

Your guests will LOVE the simple touchscreen design and the ability to record messages in high-quality HD video. Check out one of their real video sample or view their full product demonstration. We promise you will not be disappointed. “Speak now, or forever hold your peace”.

Jenn Meehan Testimonial: “I love this video… it was like having a next-gen Photo Booth at the wedding without having to lug in a giant booth…”

{Hidden GEM} Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

We discovered this Hidden GEM in a rather unlikely place.  While attending a conference held at the Boston Harbor Hotel, through casual conversation, we came across this fantastic hidden venue, right in the heart of Boston! Established in 1908 by request of the will of the late Benjamin Franklin himself, the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology was founded to educate the “tradesmen” of Boston. Franklin, identified himself as a “printer”, he wanted there to be a place where tradesmen like himself could perfect their crafts.  Almost 110 year later, that objective has flourished at FIT, still at it’s original locations on Berkeley Street.

The Hidden GEM we are specifically referring to is the Symphony Hall Replica Ballroom/Auditorium and Lobby.  The historic lobby with gorgeous marble floor, wrought iron gate and murals by Charles Mills is the ideal setting for an elegant cocktail party or a corporate reception.  The lobby leads into the ballroom which is an exact replica of  Boston Symphony Hall.  With its vaulted ceilings and sweeping balcony, the space is a visual and acoustic marvel!  This little known GEM in Boston’s South End can accommodate up to 300 guests for a seated dinner.  The ballroom is one of the few spaces in Boston that has a stage, lending itself to an array of corporate as well as social occasions.

We were so enamored with the charm and elegance of this great space that can accommodate such a variety of events, both large and small, that we had to make it one of our Hidden GEMs.
