It’s Not Just “HER” Day!

I feel like I know a lot about the wedding industry, but like the saying goes “you learn something new everyday”!  Regardless of what you’ve heard there are many grooms out there that truly care about “their” wedding day, have great style, vision and shockingly want to be a part of the process.  Every January part of my job is finding what’s NEW in the wedding and social industry which is how I came across a few incredible blogs dedicated to GROOMS.  They offer tips for proposing, what to wear, how to pair patterns together and my favorite is a SUBMISSION section…I LOVE that a groom would want to submit his wedding in hopes of getting it published. While exploring through these fabulous blogs I have to say I learned a few things…I always wondered what color shoes should be paired with a suite, I was also blatantly unaware of how many types of dress shoes existed for men and I never knew there were names for all the different styles of plaid dress shirts. Below are links to my TOP 3 favorite sites…I highly recommend checking them out…you just might learn something!

A New England Seaside Wedding

 Written by Tania Atkinson

Now that there is that all familiar dusting of white snow over most of New England, we thought it would be a nice time to feature one of our beautiful warm-weather weddings.  This past September, Sylvia and James exchanged vows at The Ocean House, in the gorgeous seaside town of Watch Hill, RI.

The couple chose Ocean House for their special day, not just for it’s breathtaking beauty, but it also had emotional significance to them.  James grew up taking regular family vacations to Watch Hill, and just one year prior, he proposed to Sylvia on the beach just in front of the hotel.

Sylvia and James did a wonderful job of combining the colors and seaside elements of the the oceanfront with their easy-going “joie de vivre” personalities in their wedding.   The rustic look of the farm tables with hemstitched runners was paired beautifully with the glass beaded chargers and textured floral centerpieces.  They even put a little extra fun and personality on the tables with their airport country code table signs and luggage tag place cards.

Sayles Livingston perfectly captured the elegant beach feel in Sylvia’s gorgeous bridal bouquet, the simple blooms in the bridesmaids hair and the elegant display on the wedding cake.  Guests enjoyed cocktails overlooking the stunning view of the Rhode Island coastline then dined in the Ocean House ballroom with the delicate sea breeze coming in through the wall of open doors.  The entire day was as lovely and joyous as the couple.  This wedding was an absolute pleasure to be a part of.

To Drone or not to Drone at your wedding

Written by Tania Atkinson

The wedding industry is all about change, and that concept of change is primarily driven by the brides (and grooms).  Brides are always looking for that new element that will make their wedding stand out, be more memorable, or have that one thing that is different from anything else they have seen before.

What better way to capture that special something on their special day then in the the wedding photographs! In this blog, that special something IS the wedding photographs! More specifically, the growing trend of using drones to capture the wedding pictures and videos.  Wedding photographers are adding drones to their a-la-cart menus to capture scenic shots, aerial views of an outside wedding ceremony or just to add a different creative element to the wedding photos.

Some brides and grooms make sure their guests are aware of their drone as an interactive way to capture the fun and excitement of their special day, while other couples prefer the drone to be more like a “silent guest” capturing candid moments of the wedding party and guests.

The use of drones is not universally embraced by all wedding photographers.  As Nikki Cole, of Nikki Cole photography states, “I personally, do not use drones for photography.  My work is about telling the story of a special day.  As a result, I strive to be as unobtrusive as possible during a wedding.  I think drones would be far too much of a distraction for guests. “.  Photographers and couples agree, that at a wedding, the focus should be on the couple, not the newest piece of technology (however cool and exciting it may be!) and the “distraction factor” should be considered before deciding to use a drone or not.

Because the cost of drones has come down so much in the past years, photographers are able to offer the use of them in their packages for an $300 to $600, making it a somewhat affordable addition to the wedding budget.  Of course, couples want to be sure the photographer is experienced in the use of the drone as to ensure the drone isn’t obtrusive, there are no violations of air space and of course, there are not “accidents” which could definitely put a damper on a wedding day!

So, it looks like drones are here to stay, and just another exciting way to enhance your wedding day.

Pets in the Wedding

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

As planners one question we have heard a lot is, “should we have our pet(s) in the wedding”?  Our answer is always the same,  “if they are important to you as a couple then yes of course”! If your venue does not allow pets we recommend someone bringing your pet to do photos outside before or maybe do some photos right after you get ready.  Another way to incorporate your furry family member is to include them in the Save The Date photo or if they are very well trained they can have a sign and walk down the aisle.  Couples have gotten very creative with their pets, you will see custom made bow ties, collars, leashes, tutus, florals and full wedding apparel.  It is very easy to fall in LOVE with all the pet wedding inspiration out there, but make sure you consider your pets comfort levels, behavior and personality before you decide to have them be a part of the big day…you do not want to end up regretting your decision as not ALL pets will do well in such an environment.

{GEM Spotlight} White Loft Studio

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

We know no one likes to get older, but every now and then it works in our favor!  Over the years that we’ve been doing event planning we have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic vendors.  What makes them fantastic?  For us it is someone who is creative and comes up with new ideas for our clients, who rolls with all the changes there inevitably always is, who is kind and most importantly laughs with us!  So to honor those fantastic people who make our job easier we are going to bring you the best every month.  By the way there are fabulous vendors out there who we have not worked with, and if you are one of them we hope to work with you soon as well!

To begin our series we’d love to introduce you to Heidi of White Loft Studios, and incredibly talented lifestyle photographer that gives new meaning to the word organic. I don’t think there is anything she doesn’t photograph, whether it be a real wedding, children, animals or styled shoot for a magazine she brings a style all her own.    Her vision when she looks at a project is unlike many, and the romance and vintage quality she brings out is rare.

When it was time for the team at Gracious Events to have new head shots taken we did not have to look very hard for a photographer or a location. Heidi met us at The Four Seasons Boston on a chilly day in December, which turned out to be one fun filled day of laughs. She had so many ideas of how she wanted to capture us. If you have never visited the Ladies Lounge on the second floor at The Four Seasons then you are missing an iconic pink piece of furniture. Yes, business head shots in the bathroom on a pink couch is not typical but here at Gracious Events we are anything BUT and thrive on thinking outside the box.  As you can see there were plenty of smiles, tons of laughs but that is expected when the three of us are together. Heidi was able to capture some many great moments that day and sometimes was laughing as much as we were.
