Heaven in the Southwest!

Written by Tania Atkinson

We are tried and true New Englanders here at Gracious Events.  However after visiting Arizona for a few days, we have decided that as appealing as sub zero temperatures and multiple feet (except for this winter) of snow is, the warm always-sunny climate of the southwest is SO much better!

We visited  a number of resorts in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, but it was The Sanctuary Camelback Resort that really needed to be shared with the folks back east.  Tucked away in the foothills of Camelback Mountain, this little piece of heaven radiates luxury and elegance, but in a non-pretentious kind of way.

This Asian inspired resort features gorgeous pools, a zen garden, hiking trails and one of the best panoramic views in the state.  And if all that activity fires up your appetite, you can dine in any one of their fabulous restaurants under the supervision of the Food Networks’ executive chef Beau McMillan.

But wait,  there’s more! Literally minutes from the Sanctuary, are world renown golf courses and downtown Scottsdale, so you can eat, shop and play all without opening an umbrella or putting on a parka!

Venue Spotlight – The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

Written by Jennifer Hansen

It’s 40 degrees today, but with temperatures all over the board we still can’t help dreaming of going back to the The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf resort in Kiawah, South Carolina. It’s located right outside of Charleston and we were lucky enough to plan a 3 day event there for a client – and even luckier, according to my husband, that we arrived two days earlier then the group.  Right when you drive on the island you feel like you are entering a bygone era as you drive onto the island under a canopy of beautiful trees and up the oak lined driveway to The Sanctuary Hotel.

It is perhaps one of the most stunning destinations we’ve gone to – from the golf courses and tennis center where our clients played on award winning golf courses.  If you are a die hard golfer you need to put one of these courses on your bucket list!

And who says team building has to be boring!  The staff at the hotel put together a great afternoon of Olympic games for us and even when we asked if they had sumo wrestling they happily found it for us! Trust me that stopped a few beach walkers.

We had an amazing closing dinner and after hours lounge which we made to look like a Boston pub. The team at Sanctuary was wonderful and we were lucky enough also to work with fantastic team at Adventures in Charleston that provided all our unique rentals.

Thank you to a fantastic client – now hurry up and close another fund so we can celebrate again!

“I’m not sure work is supposed to be this fun.”

When I first started GEM, it was just me doing it all…well, me and my poor husband, along with family and friends who would kindly offer (read: be forced) to help when I was melting down. Now I am so fortunate to have two great employees who not only make my life easier, but make me laugh—and in this business, it’s important to be able to do that once in a while (if not more).

I could describe in detail their accomplishment and styles, but in the true spirit of event planning, in which we seek inspiration from everything around us, I’d like to introduce you to the GEM team, Tania Atkinson and Nicole Mitsakis, through the fabulous technological phenomenon Pinterest.
