{VENDOR SPOTLIGHT} The Holy Donut

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Gracious Events is always exploring new places wherever we go and when we find something we LOVE, we SHARE!  This past week our TEAM was in Portland, Maine excited to celebrate our long overdue company holiday outing.  We were thrilled to be staying at the newly opened Press Hotel as we’ve been fans of it!  On our travels throughout Portland we were told to go to The Holy Donut, as their donuts are amazing and made with real Maine potatoes.  Honestly, this could not have come at a better time as I recently wrote a blog about our “Top Favorite Wedding Trends For 2016” and yes, number 5 was “Donut Bars”. Clearly I felt the need to have our team further research this just to make sure we had gotten it right.  After dinner while walking back to our hotel we happened to pass by The Holy Donut and I was excited to look in because the lights were on…I thought “oh they must be making the donuts” NOPE, NO DONUTS because they were actually redoing the floors and would be closed for the next few days…the look of sheer shock and sadness on my face was undoubtedly apparent because the two gentlemen working on the floors actually opened the door.  Sadness immediately turned to happiness after finding out they actually had another location…THANK YOU GOD!

The Holy Donut was our last stop as we headed home from Portland and well worth it.  After trying the donuts TEAM GEM concluded that they were in fact, very YUMMY.  My favorites were the ginger sugared sweet potato and the sea salt chocolate. I’m a little sad because even though I bought a half dozen, they’re already gone (YUP, only lasted 24 hours), but at the same time I’m feeling BLESSED that I only live an hour and a half away from Portland, Maine!  #welovemaine #welovetheholydonut

GEM’s Fall Tablescape Design

Peterson Party Center is like a playground for Event Planners, and our GEM team has spent many hours there looking at linens, tables, chairs, silverware, glassware and place settings.  Each month they ask vendors to come in and design a table for their showroom.  Gracious Events was thrilled to be asked to do the October table and had an amazing time designing our elegant fall tablescape.  Our color palette was a rich burnt orange, graphite and Tiffany blue.  Most tables have a centerpiece of florals but we decided a cake designed by Jenny’s Wedding Cakes would be more “out of the box”, after all, you normally do not see a cake as a centerpiece! But here at Gracious Events we like to be different.  Our custom signage was hand embellished with glitter to give it a little extra sparkle and coordinated flawlessly with our overall table design. Huge thank you to John Caplice for photographing our amazing table!

It’s more than just a chair

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

As planners we look at all the details, therefore, we encourage our clients to look at those same details.  When it comes to your reception the right chair can change the entire look of your room.  The options are endless and we always encourage our clients to actually try out the chair…yes, we care about the look but everyone knows it needs to be comfortable for your guests. Most venues now have what used to be the “upgrade” Chiavari Ball Room Chair which is stylish, but sometimes the color may not align with the overall look of your wedding.  When that is the case, we are usually off to our friends at  Peterson Party Center, Rentals Unlimited or New England Country Rentals.  It is great that they are always coming up with new options for us planners to share with our clients and we love how helpful everyone is when we come to visit.  Many clients just choose to upgrade the chair and maybe add fun signs to the back of their chairs only.  Others reach out to their florist to design something custom to be used on the backs of their chairs…honestly, the creativity is endless!  I found so many amazing chairs designs I am thinking GEM needs a NEW Pinterest board dedicated to just chairs!

Marquee Lighting

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

This is one my NEW favorite options for event lighting…MARQUEE LIGHTING. This has been huge in the UK for the last couple of years and has recently made its way across the pond to us!  In our quest to find more information about marquee lighting we stumbled upon Your Love In Lights, a Needham, MA based company.  I had the pleasure of speaking with Helen about her and her husband Tom’s company.  Ironically Helen is actually from England (one of my favorite accents) so when she discovered that the US was missing this market they decided they would offer some options.  They are so fun and can truly make a statement at any event…even corporate!  Another market to use these marquee lights would be in business offices, I know we would LOVE a pair that spells out GEM to have in our office…maybe we can ask Santa!

{VENDOR SPOTLIGHT} Soakology

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Gracious Events is BIG on sharing, we LOVE when we find a really unique service, location, product or really anything that we know our followers would like to hear about.  If you have not been to Portland, Maine to Soakology I recommend reading this blog and then planning your adventure.  I recently found myself in Portland celebrating my 40th Birthday with friends, based on a recommendation from another friend we started our day out at Soaklology.  The minute you walk in you can immediately feel yourself relax into this tranquil environment, you would not think a business that is a foot sanctuary spa and tea house would go together, BUT I am here to tell you first hand it does.  The staff was so gracious and helpful, the location is very convenient with plenty of parking and the “LITE BITES” menu of snacks you can have while your feet soak are amazing.  I am not a huge fan of Hummus…hands down they had the most amazing Hummus with warm pita breads.  As for the teas I went with a cold green tea with honey…again amazing!  If you are a tea enthusiast the Tea House portion of  Soakology will not disappoint you.  Whether you want to plan a day with your bridesmaids, friends or just to go by yourself for some quiet time I highly recommend you do.

The Inflatable Pub

Written by Tania Atkinson

The majority of our posts are about something elegant, lovely or whimsical.  However, this time, none of those words would apply.  While doing a little surfing, I came across this little gem and just had to feature it on our blog.  Check out The Paddy Wagon: the Boston area’s first inflatable Irish Pub.  We’ve all been to parties at local restaurants, functions facilities or bars, but have you been to a party in a completely portable Irish Pub?!

This creative new way to have a party is heating up the party scene (both corporate and social) and The Paddy Wagon is the first of it’s kind to hit the Boston Market.  They are a full service operation providing the facility, entertainment, food and most importantly… the beverages.  Their T.I.P.S certified staff provides a variety of been and wine and even teaches guests how to pour a “perfect pint” at their taps.  They provide a variety of traditional Irish fare, perfect for a corporate outing or birthday celebration.

Speaking of celebration, The Paddy Wagon also provides multiple entertainment options from and Irish fiddle to a full band or DJ, Irish Step dancers and even their Irish Wolf hounds.

{Hidden GEM} The Bejeweled Florist

Written by Tania Atkinson

This weeks’ Hidden Gem is something so fitting to the title: The Bejeweled Florist has been dubbed “The Queen of the brooch bouquet”.  The business based out of Windham, NH all began when Denise’s daughter asked her to make make her a brooch wedding bouquet so she could include her grandmothers’ vintage brooch.  From that one bouquet in southern NH, the Bejeweled Florist began.

The Bejeweled Florist has created masterpiece brooch bouquets for brides all over New England, across the country and even Canada, Europe and Australia!  Each bouquet is one-of-a-kind and painstakingly hand made with the the brides’ individual style and color scheme in mind.  They come in a variety of sizes so as to fit every budget and personal style.

The joy of the brooch bouquet is that after all the wedding day, it is something you will have forever.  Denise has made bouquets for brides as well as entire wedding parties.  She has expanded her creations to include boutonnieres, bracelets and adorned shoes.

{Venue Spotlight} Granite Ridge Estate & Barn

Written by Nicole Mitsakis

Gracious Events had the pleasure of spending the last week touring “all things wedding” in the State of Maine.  We started out at Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine for Brand Camp 2015 put on by Tide Creative.  It was an amazing experience to not only listen and learn from the incredible speakers but connect with some really FABULOUS creative professionals throughout the Wedding Industry.  Here is New England we get a lot of interest from couples wanting to plan a rustic barn wedding but depending on the barn it can come with challenges as some have been around for years and may lack certain amenities that you would like for your guests.

GEM is so excited that we now have a NEW barn venue to share with all of  you!  While at Brand Camp we met Jill Fratianne co-owner of Granite Ridge Estate & Barn located in Norway, Maine.  Jill was so nice and shared all about the barn and how it’s actually brand new…YES you read this right, we now have a NEW barn venue in the New England to work with. Before our conversation with Jill was even over I knew I would be featuring Granite Ridge Estate & Barn in our “Venue Spotlight” this week.  There are no words to express how beautiful this venue is so I will let the photos and VIDEO TOUR be my words but wanted to share a few key points.
